To quote the Fashion Bible that is Vogue....

To quote the Fashion Bible that is Vogue, Autumn/ Winter 2012 is All About Purple.

This makes me very happy, because purple (well deep Aubergine to be precise....) is my favourite colour!

We are soon heading into the busy party season of Christmas and New Year, so what better subject to discuss than Purple Party Dresses; or at least I think so :-)

Are you like me, buying a gorgeous dress for a particular occasion and then wearing it just a few times before it languishes at the back of your wardrobe? Or once you enter parenthood the chance to go out and dress up might happen so rarely that splashing out on an expensive dress seems rather extravagant?

There are some great high street brands out there where you can buy affordable and stylish clothes (and I will look at some below), but I have discovered this fantastic company where you can hire dresses that you would probably never dream of even trying on let alone buying.

Girl Meets Dress

is a company based in London who hire out a huge range of party dresses, and happily for us they are also embracing the

A/W 2012 Purple trend

Vivienne Westwood

Stella McCartney

, there is a wealth of Designers to drool over.

For example, you could hire this very striking

dress by Alexander McQueen

worth £449 for just £89.

McQ ALEXANDER MCQUEEN - Sculpted Silk Dress

If you don't fancy hiring a dress and would prefer to buy whilst still not hurting your bank balance too much then have a look at my

Pinterest Purple Party Dresses 2012

board for some inspiration.

Style is a very personal thing, and the majority of the dresses I've added are my style, but I've tried to include a broad range to hopefully show a good selection of what is out there to buy. All the dresses shown are currently on sale via the pinned links (as of the date that this post was published), but are also for sale from other sources, so do have a shop around.

Some of my personal favourites are:

Coast, Alva Duchess Satin Dress

I could now start to talk shoes and handbags, but that's definitely a whole new topic and one for a later blog or two (or three?!) (Although I have started a Pinterest board called

'Shoes, shoes, shoes...'

that you might want to take a peek at.)

Instead, having seen so many different shades and tones of purple in my search I'll ask: 'What is purple?':

Any of a group of colours with a hue between that of violet and red

That gives a lot of scope to find a shade that suits you and suits your outfit and occasion. From rich, regal colours that give a sense of opulence and luxury through to subtle, light shades; purple comes in many tones to suit many moods.

Swarovski crystals and Pearls come in a wide range of these purple shades and tones from rich dark Garnet through to delicate Lavender:

Garnet,  Burgundy,  Dark Red Coral,  Amethyst,  Purple Velvet,  Cyclamen Opal,  Light Amethyst,  Tanzanite,  Violet,  Provence Lavender,  Violet Opal

Bordeaux,   Burgundy,  Dark Purple,  Lavender

The most important thing when dressing for a special occasion though is to feel your best. A gorgeous dress in the shape and style to compliment you, and some beautiful jewellery to

add that final sparkle
