Wedding Shrugs, Wraps, Collars, Capes....!

Whether your wedding is in Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn it can be reassuring (and often necessary!) to have a shrug/ wrap/ cover-up waiting in the wings.

Cover-ups can also be used to accessorise your look; to provide a cover for your upper arms (a top bride-to-be request) or just to add that little extra something to your dress.

When I first started looking at cover-up ideas little did I know how many different types there are out there to choose between!

From wraps, shrugs, stoles and collars, to boleros, capes and full length cloaks. The choice is amazing!

With so many wonderful designs available it would be hard to pick my favourite, but I have added a selection to my Pinterest board Wedding Shrugs, Wraps, Collars, Capes...! for you to peruse :-)

One site that epitomises the amazing choice available is WonderfulWraps based in Poole, Dorset. Many of Wonderful Wraps products are also designed and made in the UK. See below for just a hint of what they have available!

Now where to start?!

Lace is a good starting point, still featuring prominently in many wedding dresses following the Royal Wedding in 2011.

An ideal way of including lace is with a bolero jacket or shrug.

You could add more of a vintage feel to your outfit by wearing a decadent faux fur stole or wrap to channel a 1920’s Screen Goddess feel!

Or go all out with this amazing Elizabeth Taylor inspired White Feather jacket!

For full on glamour, Marabou feathers are the only choice!

To add some warmth but not compromise on style, a delicate knitted shrug could be for you.

A wonderful, independent firm based in Yorkshire called

Makepiece

hand makes delicate and stylish wedding shrugs and capes along with lots of other amazing knitwear including Wedding Dresses! Please visit their website to learn more about their philosophy, but to quote they are "

part of a story which knits a community with a landscape

".

They even source and spin their wool in the UK (including some from their own sheep!), so you couldn’t get more ‘Made in the UK’ and a 'Great British Brand' than that :-)

At this time of year where Autumn is giving way to Winter you may need a little more than a small shrug to help keep out the cold (with the wind whistling through the trees and blowing fallen leaves around my garden as I write this I couldn’t agree more!)

One very dramatic way of doing this is with a Cape or full length Cloak. You could look very ‘Snow Queen’ with this amazing floor length white, faux fur trimmed cape!

Or you could have a ‘Gone with the Wind’ feel with this luxurious Burgundy Velvet cloak.

For something a little bit different that gives a very sleek finish to your look, you can try a cross between a wrap and a shrug from

Wrapor

.

Wrapor

is a family run business based in Lancashire where all of their products are designed and handmade in the UK, another 'Great British Brand'! They have a fantastic range of wraps, shrugs and boleros available in their own unique designs with each piece being handmade to order.

The Wrapor main design is a one piece shrug that gives the look of a wrap or pashmina tied behind your back but without any ties or fasteners. This leaves any beautiful detailing on the back of your dress uncovered, but your shoulders and upper arms securely covered :-)
